This is Sarah , your new Webmaster as of 2010! *applause* SO yes , please expect posts on Fridays about all things LD , and feel free to email me/pass me interesting poems / stories / youtube videos you find on the net and want to share with the rest okie!

Also congratulations to the Drama Wing girls for clinching awards for the Lit Up Fest as well as the Lit Wing girls for clinching both first and third place!

Okay yes moving on to other more important things at the momment.

CIP PROGRAMME AT LITTLE ARTS ACADEMY!

Next , here is what is going to happend during the CIP.

LD CIP @ Little Arts Academy

Objective: To unleash the children’s creativity and enable them to produce short pieces of writing and perform them using basic elements of drama, and with confidence.

Materials needed: Mahjong paper, coloured markers, whiteboard markers

14 children aged 8-12, sessions from 12 pm to 1 pm.

Day 1-31/7/10 (20 people)

-Walk in and find our buddies (pick a child at random), settle down

-Introduce yourself to your buddy+ large scale introductions in pairs

-Icebreakers

i) Follow me (10 minutes)

Rules:

1. Everyone sits in a circle with one person, A, standing in the middle.

2. Pick a leader, B

3. The leader will then choose and perform a simple action repeatedly

4. Everyone else will repeat the action

5. At a certain point of time, B will change her action

6. Everyone else will have to follow the action after seeing the leader change her action

7. A’s job is to spot who the leader is within 3 tries

8. If B is spotted, she has to do a forfeit

Note:

1. Only B can change the action

2. As long as you see someone changing the action you can follow suit

-5 minute break (water break, toilet break)

-group them into groups of 2.

-Write a short story/poem in the respective groups (35 minutes)

1. Theme- What makes me happy

2. Each story/poem must be

i) Less than 10 lines

ii) 3 Minutes to read out (at most)

* If they cannot produce anything, we will have to give them simple scripts (In simple English).

-debrief (5 minutes)

Day 2-7/8/10 (16 people)

-Walk in and find our buddies, introduction

-Large scale introduction

-Icebreakers and introductory activity (20 minutes)

i) Ice statues

Rules:

1. Get everyone to space out in the room and choose an animal

2. Play some music (they have to move around acting like the animal)

3. When the music is stopped, they have to freeze (elaborate)

4. The facilitators will tap someone at random, A

5. A will have to make an animal noise corresponding to their chosen animal; facilitators gradually tap more children so the soundscape builds (kids have to repeat sound)

Note:

1. If they do not freeze when the music stops, the person in question will have to perform a forfeit.

2. If they do not make an animal sound when tapped, they will have to perform a forfeit.

3. They have to make sounds and move like animals when acting.

*explain elements of drama during the game

-5 Minute break

-split into individual groups

-facilitators help kids to incorporate actions and elements of drama into their performance, help them work on their scripts and rehearsals (35 minutes)

-debrief (5 minutes)

*facilitators, decide on what props to bring on the following session, to aid the kids in their performance.

Day 3-14/7/10 (15 people)

-Introduce ourselves to them and find buddies

-Rehearsal (20 minutes)

-5 Minute break

-actual performance (35 minutes)

-debrief (5 minutes)

JUBILATE VII!

Although I didnt have the chance to see you all perform but seeing your rehearsals, it was awesome. And according to the audience, you guys did great! :) Thanks for supporting the drama girls throughout their rehearsals too! Greatly appreciated! :) YOU ALL DID LD PROUD.

Drama wing
Our musical is beyond awesome. We had so little time to prepare the ending-thank you Lord, with all the actions, correct pitches and dance. We couldnt miss out any small little detail. And YES WE DID IT. Although we had our PMS periods, we still put our best fronts on stage right! Everyone of us did really well and put in so much effort for the musical. Again, according to the audience, it was one of the more enjoyable/entertaining performance, SO GOOD JOB GUYS! :)

Sec 3 and 4 Drama students' audition for Jubilate Musical 2010

All Sec 3 and 4 Drama students of LD are to audition for the Jubilate Musical on 20th Jan 2010. Audition will take place in MPR2 from 5pm to 6.30pm [after Sec 1 orientation].You are to prepare to sing a song(ANY LANGUAGE HAHAHAHA) of your choice as part of the audition. Ms Natalie Hennedige will also facilitate a workshop through which she will make her selection together with the teachers.

Please take note of the following:
- All Sec 4 Drama students will definitely be part of the performance. You will contribute in other capacity if you are not selected to be part of the cast.

- Only the Sec 3s selected to be cast for the musical will join the rehearsals. The other Sec 3s will have a different programme on wednesday.

- Rehearsals for the musical is most likely to be on every Friday, and only selected Wednesdays [to accommodate Ms. Natalie's schedule].

It is a dry run for drama girls, lit girls will meet to rehearse at the usual classroom venus. The sec ones will rehearse puppetry.

HI GUYS!
there's a HCI ELDDS RE:ACT CAMP
organised by Hwa Chong Institution for 4 sec ones and 4 sec twos in ld regardless of whether they are drama or lit girls because they have programmes for both.

It is from the 11th to 13th November, Wednesday to Friday.
Note: it's not an overnight camp. It ends at 6 pm for the first two day and 10 pm for the last day.
Sec ones/twos who are interested, please seek permission from your parents before informing your level cos.

If more than 4 students from each level are interested, we'll have a ballot to decide who's going.

Dear LD members,

The teachers have discussed the feasibility and dates for the LD showcase. It is extremely difficult to find a suitable time for all because of the following reasons:

(i) Sec 1 and Sec 3 MTP on 6th Nov [This has taken up the initial slot for our showcase]
(ii) Teachers' exam invigilation [The teachers need to go to other schools to invigilate "O" level examinations]
(iii) Sec 3 extra lessons
(iv) other programmes in school calendar
(v) holiday plans of LD members

We are proposing that we have the showcase in the week of
16th to 20th November 2009.
The exact dates cannot be fixed for now because we are still looking for a suitable venue.

We need you to check with your parents and then indicate whether you'd still be around to be part of the showcase.

For Sec ones and the sec twos in lit wing, they will be having the NYPSL poetry slam competition.
For Sec twos and sec threes in drama wing, they will be having the writestuff drama competition on this Saturday and the finals will be on Friday.

We’ll fight, we’ll fight! Win or die!

Our war cry rings loud and true. Three months of sweat and tears saw to the birth of our SYF piece, The Runner of Marathon by Stella Kon, depicting war in ancient Greek. The play speaks of freedom, of victory, of passion, and armed this very same set of core beliefs; we had set off towards the conquest for glory.

The journey, perhaps, had begun back in Secondary Two, where with crossed fingers and bated breath, we had watched our Red Badge seniors walk up the very same route we would take in two years to come. Needless to say, the Singapore Youth Festival Competition holds utmost significance within the Performing Arts circle, that even back then we had understood its prestige.

Pardon me such an unbecoming metaphor; but the SYF preparations, it happened like a whirlwind. In the hustle and bustle of Secondary Four life, we were presented with the script, and met with our director, our beloved Ms Serena, for the first time. The following months saw the progression and development of both us as performers, and our character counterparts, concurrently.

Of course, what is drama without some backstage drama? The intensity of our rehearsals steeped to a crescendo, and heightened tensions coupled with self-induced pressure and expectations were the catalysts for numerous breakdowns (and even several anatomical injuries). I am proud to say, however, that despite all these, we held on to each other. Be it a pat on the back or a simple nod of reassurance, it worked wonders in keeping our sanity.

We end our rehearsals physically exhausted, mentally drained. Throbbing aches develop in our sore joints from going through the motions repeatedly, and not to mention from transporting our ten ton sets from one place to another. Now, who is to say producing a Drama piece is a task for “slackers”?

Ironically, our SYF date was scheduled on 1^st April (and no, this is not a joke). Our mounting anxiety was evident, and on our final rehearsal the day before, we were a bag of rattling nerves. When 1^st April finally arrived, we were champing at the bit. Decked out in our costumes, galleons of gel coagulated in our hair, and with our hearts racing and palms clammy with excitement, we piled onto the bus to the destination where we will showcase the fruits of our three month labour.

Backstage, behind curtains, we took our places. Yes we have gone through this twenty, thirty, forty times, but this one run would determine the ultimate results. In typical St. Nicholas fashion, we sent about a round of whispered prayers and well-wishes. The adrenaline coursed through our blood as the curtains were drawn. We fell silent, narrowing our focus to the very moment, to this very play.

It felt like mere minutes. We filled the stage with resonating energy, injecting our love for drama, our passion for ELDDS into every line, every rise and fall of an action. As the very last word, “freedom”, permeated the area, each of us in the SYF group must have felt a burst of emotion within them. We have done it, and more importantly, we have done it together, for LD!

No matter the results, we have returned in triumph! ;D

Here, on behalf of the SYF cast and crew, I would like to thank all our teachers and friends for their unwavering support throughout the rehearsal period, as well as the thoughtful notes and messages left for us on the day of SYF. Also, we would like to give a huge THANK YOU to Ms Serena, our director, and Mr Adrian Wong, teacher in charge, for the guidance, the pep talks, and much more. WE LOVE YOU ALL!
